Vogue Living Australia - Martha Sturdy

Born and raised in British Columbia, Martha Sturdy is an iconic figure in the history of Vancouver’s artistic identity. Since she created her first pieces of jewelry back in the late 70s when she was a recent graduate in sculpture from the Emily Carr University, Martha has been recognized internationally for her work as a furniture designer and sculptor, her style has blended the concerns and methods of Conceptual sculpture with those of Suprematism forming her own language within the realms of art and design.

Her Farmhouse, located in a 250-acre field at the foot of Mount Currie nearby Pemberton, BC was originally a sawmill building that she and her husband bought in 1990 and converted into a functional residence with wide open spaces that reflect's Martha's personality and minimalistic style as she designed many aspects of the house including the structure itself and most of the furnishing, creating the same elegant approachability that one experiences seeing her artwork.
